Regio Insubrica Award - Saint Apollibare Island - Ref. HB9-001

Our target was to activate something news, to increase friendship and Ham Spirit among TERA Radio Club and Insubria Radio Club members, to work all modes and as much bands as possible and to enjoy a lot.

We logged 1577 QSO (1273 SSB, 128 CW, 3 RTTY, 173 PSK) tank to the opportunity to be “on air” with the call H9IRC/p for about 48 hours, contacting several  countries (from Japan to U.S.A.) without great pretensions.
Shootings made by HB9FAQ Fiorenzo (he works better in Ham Radio .... the camera is not his hobby!) attest the big fun and, as the comments received, we did enjoyable activities. This means our goals are achieved!

From our part, Insubria Radio Club / HB9, we are thinking of different activities and how to improve our stations in handset.
We are evaluating the activities for 2010 but before we are on  air in September with the call HB9VELO to celebrate the World Cyclyng of Mendrisio.

By the end a mention to the list of those presents (we regret that no member of Insubria Radio Club/I was able to reach us but we are sure that next time the team will be both HB9 an d I!) Hanny, HB9OAU’ xyl (the most important person, the guesthouse’ chief!) - HB3YVK Luca - HB9AUS Fabio - HB9EDM Marco - HB9EFJ Claudio - HB9FAQ Fiorenzo - HB9FBG Mauro - HB9OAR Moreno - HB9OAU Claudio - HB9TQF Géry - HB9TUZ Massimo.

We hope that our business has increased interest in "Regio Insubrica Award" and

C’eravamo posti l’obiettivo di attivare qualcosa di nuovo, di creare attivitŕ associativa, d’essere attivi in piů modi e di divertirci.

SAINT APOLLINARE ISLAND

Saint Apollinare Island, also known as Small Island or Rabbit Island is located on Lake Maggiore, where together with Big Island or Saint Pancrazio Island form the archipelago of small islands of Brissago (Ticino-Switzerland), place of refuge for early Christians during the time of persecution.
The Big Island is home from 1885 of a beautiful exotic garden wanted by Baroness Antoinette de Saint Léger, who in 1927 sold to a Hamburg merchant Max Emdem, who built the house and the dock since 1949  were purchased in owned by the Canton Ticino, the municipalities of Ascona, Brissago and Ronco s / Ascona, by the Swiss League for the Protection of Cultural Property (Heimatschutz) and the Swiss League for Nature Protection (Pro Natura) and were open to the public as Botanic Park Canton Ticino (2.5 hectares). Open from March to October from 09:00 to 18:00, offers more than 1500 species of plants from the Mediterranean, subtropical Asia, from South Africa, the Americas and Oceania.
On the Saint Apollinare Island are still the remains of a church dating from the thirteenth century and dedicated to Saint Apollinare; since the fifteenth century seems to be become a "breeding ground for rabbits" and this is the reason of its most popular name.
